“Harry Potter’s” young stars have confessed to drinking and smoking. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who play young wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, say they have experimented just like all other teenagers.

Emma, 17, said: “You are careful not to do it in the public eye. You have your first cigarette or first glass of alcohol in a safe environment with your close friends - or you could be foolish and choose to do it in a London nightclub.”

18-year-old Rupert added: “Because we are quite busy we do miss out, but we still have those kinds of experiences like getting drunk for the first time.”

Despite enjoying going out, Daniel, 17, says he always puts his work first. He revealed: “What I enjoy most is the acting and the work, but it doesn’t stop us from having a party once in a while. Parties are fine and fun.”

In the latest film, “Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix,” Daniel has his first on-screen kiss with Katie Leung, who plays fellow Hogwarts student Cho Chang. But he admits he wasn’t nervous as nothing can touch the nerve-wracking experience of appearing naked on stage, which he did in West End hit “Equus’..”

He said: “Once you’ve been on stage naked in front of 1,000 people you really feel you can do most anything without inhibition. The kissing was fun but less sexy than I imagined. We probably got it right on the 30th take!”

“Emma Watson, at 16 the youngest of the trio, has grown into an attractive young woman over the course of the films, but she is probably the least confident in her own abilities. While she sees a lot of her Hermione Granger character in herself - “We’re both very stubborn, determined, loyal, academic feminists” - she believes any acting talent she has is instinctive and is unsure whether it will be enough to carry her on in after Harry.

“I’ll feel a bit lost when it all finishes, I guess,” she says. “It’s hard to imagine life without Harry Potter. It’s made up such a big part of my life and dominated so much time. It’ll be really weird.

“Never having done an audition before and never having done any professional acting and going into the biggest film franchise of all time, I’ve kind of come from nowhere and gone straight in at the top. Where do I go from here? I feel like I need to backtrack and work my way through again. I’d be really interested to kind of train properly because I feel I shouldn’t be here. I should have done so much more.”

What she has gained, however, is valuable experience, and she had grown sufficiently in confidence to ask David Yates, the director of Order of the Phoenix, whether she was contractually obliged to do so many takes. (Yates, who likes 30 or so takes, gave a polite yes.)

“I got thrown in the deep end on the first one, but the Harry Potter films have been a pretty amazing acting school,” she says. “When I got the part, the only thing I had apparently was some natural acting ability. I didn’t know anything about making a film, and there was so much technically I had to learn and understand.

“I spent the first two films just constantly being in awe, not really knowing if I was doing it right, if I was any good or why I was there.

“I’ve worked with four directors now, all of different nationalities, ages and personalities and I’ve worked with animals, with huge amounts of special effects and stunts. And I feel like I’ve seen and done a lot, so I’m quite lucky and I feel I’m pretty well set up for any other project I take on. This is my fifth time around, and I feel so much more confident in my ability as an actress.”

Watson, who was wearing blue Diesel jeans and a pink Chanel top, is being paid a reported £2 million for each of the final two films in the series, but insists that her drawn-out contractual negotiations were not money-motivated. “It was more about juggling my A-level exams, going to university and doing the movies,” she says.

Apart from clothes, her biggest expense so far has been a laptop, although she will be buying a car as soon as she has passed her driving test. “I’m taking lessons, but it’s so hard,” she groans. “I had no idea.”

She, too, is eagerly awaiting the final book. “It feels as if I’ve been waiting for ever. I really want to know what happens. There’s a guy who claims he’s been able to hack into JK Rowling’s account, and he’s saying that [deleted]“

Watson, whose parents divorced when she was five, plans to take a gap year, go to university. And then, if things go as planned, with Hermione Granger behind her, she will return to acting. “I’m still growing up, changing all the time, and I hope I’m talented enough to take on another character. I guess that will be a test of whether I can really act.”

We’ve all seen sibling rivalry. It must be much worse when you’re part of a rich and famous family. Nicky Hilton has taken it to a new level, giving press the wrong reaction to her sisters early release.

Apparently, Nicky had to end her trip to Greece early in order to fly back to the States for Paris’ Welcome Home party. She wasn’t too happy about it.

Hilton’s parents insisted that Nicky return home to present a “united front” for her sister’s release. Nicky was in the Mediterranean for a fashion show with her boyfriend David Katzenberg.

According to a source, “Her parents dragged her back because they didn’t think it would be good for the family’s image if they didn’t show a united front. She loves her sister, but she thinks the whole media circus is ridiculous.”

Makes me smile when famous, rich, and beautiful sisters fight over such things.

Nicky must have been very upset with Paris. I mean they have all the money in the world and she got her a gift basket. It’s okay though. I bet Nicky is just pacing herself. She knows Paris will go to jail again. If she got her the best gift Welcome Home Present than Paris would get a worse present next time. She is so thoughtful.

I can’t wait until Paris is Back in jail.

Emma Watson is in this week’s Hitkrant, a Dutch celeb-magazine. It’s a very short piece about something she said in Tatler:

Harry Potter-actrice Emma Watson snapt niets van celebs die het vervelend vinden om herkend te worden, maar vervolgens wél vrolijk met een enorme entourage de straat op gaan. ‘Ik was nog hartstikke jong toen ik beroemd werd. Daarom vind ik het niet moeilijk om een zo normaal mogelijk leven te leiden. Juist als je je verstopt, gaat het mis. Die grote zonnebrillen zorgen ervoor dat sterren eruitzien als insecten. En door rond te lopen met bodyguards krijg je juist nog meer aandacht. Doe normaal! Dan kun je rustig over straat.

Translation:
Harry Potter-actress Emma Watson doesn’t understand anything about celebs who hate being recognized, but then go on the streets with a big entoourage. ‘I was still very young when I became famous. That’s why I don’t think it’s hard to live a normal life. When you hide, it goes wrong. Those big sunglasses make the celebs look like mosquitos. And by walking around with bodyguards you get even more attention. Be normal! Then you can walk on the streets without being disturbed.’

This is actually what she said in Tatler, but then more polite and sympathic. Hitkrant often gives their own turn to things celebrities said.
