It has been confirmed that Daniel Radcliffe will be taking on the role in a new film called the “Journey” as Dan Eldon who was a photographer that was killed in 1993.

From Hogwarts school to the hell of Somalia’s civil war, Daniel Radcliffe is to make his biggest career leap yet. The Harry Potter actor has seen off competition from Hollywood’s A-list to star in the true story of a young British photographer who met a tragic end.

The film, Journey, will see Radcliffe play Dan Eldon, a 22-year-old who was among four journalists stoned to death by a mob in Mogadishu in July 1993. Eldon left behind 17 journals, thousands of pictures and a legacy that has won admirers including Madonna and Julia Roberts.

Is Dan going to die in all his movies now?

Nina: He beat them out because Dan Eldon’s mother thought he had more in common with her son, not because he’s better. I’m sorry, but after seeing the trailer for The Dark Knight, and remembering Brokeback Mountain, it’s laughable to think of Dan as a better actor than Heath Ledger.

And yet if it was Emma, we’d never hear the end of it.

Keep loling up there on your pedestal and I’ll be glad to provide you with fuel. If someone said something similar about Emma, I would only retaliate to the “laughable” part, since that is a bit rude, but the rest is fine, since (1) I did not say Dan is factually or subjectively a bad actor in any way, (2) Emma was never compared here to far, far more accomplished actresses, (3) I wasn’t being an asshole and flaming others’ opinions.

I am a Dan fan and I have to agree that even though Dan has proved to many that he has the potential to be a great actor, he still isn’t on the same level of acting as Heath Ledger, far from it, but there is a big age gap, so hopefully by Heath Ledger’s age, Dan will be thought of as someone on the same level as him.

P.S. ‘ManicMonkey’, if you agree that it was rude for you to have said the word laughable, then you really shouldn’t have said it at all because I am going to laugh if you think that Emma is a better actress than Dan.

Heath Ledger etc. are too old for the part. I don’t see why people are bitching about it, since Dan Eldon’s MOM herself chose Daniel. No one is saying he’s a better actor, but Eldon’s mom seems to think he’s right for the part.

Omfg I never said that he was better or worse than Orlando Bloom or Heath Ledger I just said that he beat them out for this role. God you people are annoying.

    [Reply]

  19. ManicMonkey

Yes, this place is sure annoying. I NEVER said that you said he was a better actor; I was merely clarifying why he was chosen over the others. Sheesh.
    _____
getacluealready: I shouldn’t have said it. Also, your little jab there at the end (which is the kind of opinion-bashing I respond to) is different from my statement in that Emma was not compared to a far, far superior actor. If you’d compared her to Heath Ledger or Maggie Smith or whatever far superior actor, I’d agree, but Dan? He’s not much better, if at all.

Someone said that Emma is a better actress than Dan, well thank god…. I don’t think he’d make an attractive woman.

And by the way, none of the trio is on par with Heath Ledger. He’s amazing. Dan and Rupert have potential, unfortunately Emma is way to incosistent. If she could do the audition scene from ballet shoes (Midsummer’s Night Dream monologue) all the time, she’d be incredible. But instead she over or under acts. I’ve tried to find some serious potential, but she’s gonna have to try harder. The boys have really done some serious improvement. I could see them in 8 years being up to that level. And it’s projects like these that’ll take them there.

I just wish Rupert would do something else again. He doesn’t get enough screentime in HP and nowhere else either. I’m getting enough Dan so I’m content.

  23. ManicMonkey

8 years? I’m thinking far longer, and I’m including Emma. -__-

‘ManicMonkey’, no need to be patronizing, I was only stating my opinion as I genuinly thought that you were rude in your comment about the whole laughable issue.
I was not trying to, as you so politely quoted, ‘fuck around with your comment’ or whatever. My main point was exactly what you proved with your ‘If you’d compared her to Heath Ledger or Maggie Smith or whatever far superior actor, I’d agree, but Dan? He’s not much better, if at all’, in that statement you’re obviously implying that you don’t think of Dan as even a decently good actor, and I’m staing that Emma isn’t, so we’re even. Therefore, where exactly do you see yourself as the more reasonable or even thoughtful person in this ‘the kind of opinion-bashing I respond to’ argument?

    [Reply]

  25. ManicMonkey

Beside putting some words in my mouth, you missed my point by a smidgen (and, no, I’m not being patronizing; this is how I type; I can’t help it). I apologize if my “laughable” phrase offended you. I said myself that I would have responded to that, so why would I have a problem with you doing so? The opinion-bashing I’m responding to is a very specific business: I stated an opinion, albeit in a partly rude manner, and you responded by attacking something that you knew I liked, instead of maturely stating that you disagreed or calling me out for the perceived rudeness. Why is Emma involved (beside LOL AT U ALL’s comment, likely directed at himself, since he would have gone on and on about Emma if this article was about her)? Subtle, pointless even, but that kind of thing peeves me. There’s no need for that kind of thing.
    _______

I’m not at all stating anything disparaging about Dan. Nowhere here could you claim such a thing. If I say Dan is not much better, if at all, than Emma, judging from my clear liking of Emma’s acting, one would think it’s clear that I LIKE Dan’s acting.
    _______

    Am I wrong here?
