Emma Watson Attends Monte Carlo for Liverpool’s Safe Place Appeal
HARRY Potter star Emma Watson took time off from filming the latest instalment of the blockbuster franchise to attend a star-studded event at Monte Carlo for Liverpool’s Safe Place Appeal.The black tie reception at the glamorous Hotel Hermitage raised more than £250,000 for the NSPCC’s Hargreaves Centre on Great Homer Street, Everton.
Sir Trevor McDonald gave the after dinner speech, while a charity auction saw guests bid for - among other prizes - a chance to be Simon Cowell’s personal guest at a live X Factor show, and a limited edition of Postcards from the Boys by Ringo Starr, including an opportunity to meet the former Beatle himself.
The fundraising dinner came about after the Monaco 08 Committee was formed by a group of women who were inspired by the work for abused children that takes place in the NSPCC’s flagship Merseyside building.
The committee created a food-themed event called Taittinger & Truffles 08, designed to attract new and existing supporters to come together in one of the most glamorous cities in the world and to raise funds for the new Hargreaves Centre.
The centre was named after its main benefactor, Liverpool-born Matalan founder John Hargreaves, who brought a table of international guests to the event.
He said: “It is brilliant to see so many others joining in to support two charities that are so close to my heart. As a result of our collective efforts tonight has raised over £250,000.”
The star lot at the charity auction was a suite of jewels by Chopard, which was flown in under special security arrangements for the event.
The Hargreaves Centre is being funded by the Daily Post-backed Safe Place Appeal, which aims to raise £17m to cover the cost of the building and all NSPCC services in Merseyside for a 10-year period.

If this is true, it seems that Emma’s really been getting into the charity gig lately. Donating her clothes and putting it up for auction on Ebay for charity, now going to this charity event.
Maybe she’s trying to get up to where Dan is on the charity stuff, because he’s so involved with the Demelza House Charity. We rarely hear about Emma or Rupert talking about a specific charity.
i don’t think she specifically took time off… she probably already had the time off because on her site she’s had a long break for a couple weeks.
i hope this is true though, its nice to see that she’s starting to be more involved in the charity scene, it is very important.
I agree - Emma’s been doing loads for charity recently. Are you sure the dinner news is legit, though? There should be pics around because there’s bound to have been loadsa paprazzi there at least. It seems as if it was a fairly hyped, major event.
Emma’s lovely whatever she does, so I don’t think she NEEDS to give loads of stuff for charity but it’s nice that she’s thinking about it, even if it is to match Dan.

@ Vickie-yeah, she attends loads of events, it’s just that none of those events aren’t specifically charity events. Most of them are awards shows and galas.

Emma’s such a nice girl, and getting into the charity “thing” is perfect. She would be the perfect spokesperson for any charity. Full of young energy, charisma, plus she’ll always have her Harry potter devotees backing her up. Just imagine, millions of kids and teens towards a good cause (Poverty Relief, PETA, etc). Just imagine if all those kids voted for the Harry Potter books on Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards. They would win by a landslide. The HP books are currently up for FAVORITE BOOK.
