It’s news Harry Potter fans have been dreaming of - JK Rowling has written a brand new story about the boy wizard.

But the 800-word Potter prequel isn’t being published, it’s being auctioned to raise cash for a dyslexia charity.

JK wrote the new tale on a storycard, adding at the end: “From the prequel I am not working on - but that was fun!”

Exactly what’s in the Potter prequel is being kept top secret for now, but experts are expecting bidding for the storycard to go through the roof.

In December, her handwritten book of short stories about Harry’s world - Tales of Beedle the Bard - raised a staggering £1.95 million for charity.

What do you mean WTF? She wrote a little prequel that will raise money for charity, what’s the big deal? It’s not the first time she’s done something like this.
Sod the cynics, I say well done Jo.

Yep, this is certainly the best news in the Potter world for quite a while, seeing as any HBP news is just not there… Jo is a real winner for charity, so i agree and give her a pat on the back!

Can’t wait to see what she’s written!

  3. lol Just cause you wont be able toget your mits on it!

  4. Emma

Um, it’ll be online and for sale. We will get to read it.

  5. MUSC

Emma reply on May 30th, 2008:

    It is.

RUPERTFAN reply on May 30th, 2008:

    it is okay thanks

What's with all the Twilight on the HP sites?! reply on May 30th, 2008:

How will it be published??? I want to read!!!

RUPERTFAN reply on May 30th, 2008:

    i dont know

Emma reply on May 31st, 2008:

    In book form in August.

  8. It’s being published people. They’re collecting all the various author’s work and putting them out at the end of the summer and all proceeds from the sales go to charity. lol. Plus, Waterstone’s is going to showcase the card the day after the auction on their website.

And even though it’s not mentioned here, the prequel is about James and Sirius-three years before Harry is born. It’s posted all over other Potter sites.

ohh, i’d like to read that, even when it is not going tu be published.
Well done, its great all the money that harry potter have collected for charity =)

It’s wonderful that she’s doing this for charity. However, I feel she would better serve her fans and raise WAY more money for charity if it was printed and sold to the general public then she could take her personal proceeds, which would be a whole lot of money, and donate them.

Emma reply on May 30th, 2008:

Which is why they’re doing exactly that.

Hannah reply on May 30th, 2008:

I agree with MPrincess. Jeez, JK has got so much money she could donate TONS of it without noticing. Instead she just had to write a 800-words prequal, sell it and donate the money? It would raise a lot more money just printing it

I really like Jo and all but I really dislike some of her choices

Emma reply on May 31st, 2008:

    It is being printed.

MPrincess reply on May 31st, 2008:

The article says it’s not being published, just being sold to the highest bidder.

Emma reply on June 1st, 2008:

Other articles have stated it’s being put in a book, with the 12 other cards, to be sold in August. Waterstone’s even have a pre-order link.

    Face it, you’re wrong.

Bruce reply on June 1st, 2008:

To those critical of Jo for doing this. You must remember that Jo, along with other authors were asked by Waterstone’s to pen a story on an itty bitty postcard and that the postcards would then be auctioned off for charity. Jo did not have to write about HP, she could have written about anything she wanted. She chose to write a short HP prequel, knowing that after the original was auctioned for charity, it would eventually be published, the proceeds also going to charity, so that all HP fans would get a chance to read it. This is an unexpected gift for all HP fans and we should be grateful, not critical, of Jo for doing this.

    James and Sirius live!!

    K reply on June 2nd, 2008:

How do you know she hasn’t already donated her own money to the charity? It’s not exactly something she needs to shout about, is it? This one just gives HP fans a chance to get involved, and raises the profile of that charity.
But JK has donated millions of her own money to plenty of charities, mainly in the UK, but also in eastern Europe. She doesn’t have to divulge how much but she does a lot of charity work.

Good for jo that she auctions it for charity, but PLEASE publish it soon. I have got to read that!

Emma reply on May 30th, 2008:

It will be out in August.

  12. LilyPotter

  13. agama

    Oh come on!! Seriously, wtf.

Bess reply on May 30th, 2008:

Wtf what? It ain’t rocket science, is it? She’s written a small prequel and the proceeds will go to charity. How difficult is that to understand?
