[Reply] MrFilch reply on August 25th, 2008: I’m a H/Hr shipper, but I recall vividly back in 2003 when Luna first burst on the scene, how much the Loonie shippers were being mocked, derided and attacked at every turn by the OC shippers. They viewed Luna as a threat, and they were determined (borderline obsessed) with keeping another ship from playing in “their” sandbox. Strangely enough, the H/Hr and H/L ships never experienced any kind of animosity: it was the OC that were flaming anything remotely pro-Luna. I remember in teh shipping debate threads how they argued that she was at turns ugly, dirty, demented, suffered from Tourette’s, was a spy for Voldemort (!), etc, in an effort to destroy the H/L ship (which was viewed by them as an unwelcome competitor). Needless to day, the myriad other shippers at FAP weren’t blind to what was going on and the OC’s antics eventually caused their ship to be viewed with almost universal hostility: it’s no coincidence that ARGH’s inaugural thread was posted in October 2003, just a few months after Luna’s introduction. In fact, the second post at ARGH was made by an OC’er who declared it wasn’t fair to have an anti-H/G thread without an equivalent “companion” thread: figure that one out. Several subsequent posts were made by other OC’ers in an effort to have the ARGH thread shut down - censorship, much? No, the OC left FAP after poisoning the waters with their own immature behaviour. I was in constant contact with many OC-posters on and off the boards, and most of them were quite welcoming, even enchanted by Luna. Deriding some of the really out-there H/L shippers (most of the more… “special” ones were, by their own words, former H/Hrs who found an almost religious identification figure in Luna and treated her as such) came only after they put some really out there theories that made Harmoanian (not meaning the regular H/H shippers, but the ones that practically compare Hermione to the next Messiah and Harry her deserved trophy) shippers look like harmless kittens. Those theories mostly involved Ginny as the Whore of Babylon who only ensnared Harry with trickery and love potions and what not and was apparently working for Voldemort. Again, when you attack a group, do you really expect it to keep silent? That board was not just a regular Ginny-bashfest, it was quite alarming to read all the sick, perverted, deranged fantasies they were trying to pass off as “legitimate argumentation”. No sane person should ever even *think* things like that - and yet the ARGH posters seemed even *proud* of their psychotic drivel. There were things “argued” like: Ginny actually *deserved* the Tom Riddle mind-rape she had to endure for a year when she first came to Hogwarts. I’ll simplify that for you: an 11-year old CHILD deserved to be abused/molested by an older male, since she would become such a ho later on anyway. o_O This is supposed to be sane argumentation? Really? And I’ve seen that kind of sh*t all the time on the ARGH and CS Ginny threads from supposedly “intellectual” and “well-read” posters who claimed to know the books and characters even better than JKR herself! This goes beyond attacking Ginny and feeling miffed about ships - this is *scary*. People with such a mindset need to undergo psychological evaluation and they need to be shut away from society. Instead, FAP happily provides them a forum where they can feel all important and receive praise instead of a hard slap to the face. And yes while there are a few members like that in Bonnie’s fan base there are just as many in anybody elses. In Emma’s, Evanna, Katie’s, and yes even in Dan and Rupert’s. And I apologize but only someone who is in their preteens or younger would feel the need to bash a celebrity just so their favorite is seen in a better light. IT’S RIDICULOUS. And just the fact that you would refer to Bonnie as “an ugly chick” perfectly depicts you’re lack of intellect dear. My God, I’m sure that these girls are three times as civilized as half of their fans are. A disgrace. If you have an opinion of Bonnie or evanna, do yourself a favor and add more depth to your stance. Rather than just say “I hate Bonnie”, add more to that. Because that brings a lot more attention to them, since they are accusing people who can actually answer them. Which is funny, because all the Bonnie fans are fans of someone of the trio, or all the trio many times, because there’s no competion between anyone of the trio and Bonnie. (except some people try to make it seem like there’s a popularity competition between Bonnie and Emma, when it’s obvious that won’t happen) So sad… lol [Reply]
