University of Bedfordshire video lecturer, Joanna Callaghan, has produced a short film featuring twin actors James and Oliver Phelps.
Shot on location in Bedfordshire and in studio at the University, the twins – better known for their parts as the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter movies - play the main roles in a 15 minute production called ‘In the Mind’s Eye’.
The film is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the University of Bedfordshire’s Research Institute of Media, Art & Design, and is the first of a series of productions by Joanna Callaghan which explore the ideas of key philosophers throughout history.
“The film is trying to discover if philosophical concepts can be translated into images and if narrative can play a role in developing a coherent vision of these,” says Joanna.
“The story features a character Stanley who goes on a journey through some of the ideas of Plato with the assistance of his reflection, Stanley Too. The twins play the same character, one acting as the real Stanley and the other as the reflection”, she explains.
The film involved students from the media production crew working alongside a professional crew providing a valuable opportunity for them to see and experience a film in production.
In The Mind’s Eye has been produced at the University’s Luton-based £5 million facility which was opened in 2004. It is hoped to be screened at a venue in London in the New Year.
We also have three pictures from the film.
